Terms of Reference

1. To develop and present to the Senate regulation and policy recommendations that: a) deal with the initiation, conduct, administration, and evaluation of research activities throughout the University; b) deal with the involvement of students and staff in research and service activities; c) other matters as may be required by the Senate.
2. To review and, if appropriate, amend policies and operational procedures regarding the funding and conduct of research at the University.
3. In accordance with the academic integrity-related regulations approved by the Senate, to make inquiries into the written complaint(s) referred to the Committee by the Vice-Presidents for Research and, as appropriate, either dismiss the charge(s) or conduct a hearing.
4. To review and amend policies and operational procedures regarding the management and protection of the University’s intellectual property and, as appropriate, review the ownership of the intellectual property generated by research projects.
5. To submit to the Chair of the Senate no later than the 31 July each year a written report covering the activities of the Committee during the previous academic year (1 July to 30 June).

Powers

1. To co-opt such additional voting members as may be required but not exceeding one-third of formal Committee membership.
2. To form any working groups as considered necessary.

(a) One representative, selected by rotation from among Deans of Hubs

• Professor CHEN Lei 陈雷教授, Dean of Information Hub

(b) One Thrust Head from each Hub, excluding the Hub of the serving Dean, to be nominated by the relevant Hub Deans. Provided that during such time the number of Thrusts in the Hub are less than four, Hub Dean could nominate other senior members in the Hub.
