The first Provincial Key Laboratory of HKUST(GZ) has been approved

On December 6, 2022, the Department of Science and Technology of Guangdong Province announced the list of projects to be awarded in 2023 for the construction of platform bases and scientific and technological infrastructure and the construction of high-level scientific and technical journals. The Guangdong Provincial Key Laboratory of Integrated Communication, Sensing and Computation for Ubiquitous Internet of Things applied through the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (Guangzhou) (HKUST(GZ)) is announced to be approved as a provincial key laboratory in the discipline category.

Guangdong Key Laboratory is the highest scientific research platform approved by the Department of Science and Technology of Guangdong Province. This Guangdong Key Laboratory of HKUST(GZ) announced this time is a breakthrough in the university's discipline and platform construction since its establishment. It plays an essential role in improving research excellency as well as the cultivation of innovative talents. It is also the first provincial key laboratory to be approved in Nansha since the promulgation of the Nansha Plan.

The Guangdong Provincial Key Laboratory of Integrated Communication, Sensing and Computation for Ubiquitous Internet of Things is led by Professor Kaishun WU, Associate Vice President (Research) of the HKUST(GZ), affiliated with the Thrust of Data Science and Analytics and Thrust of Internet of Things, teaming with top experts from various cross-disciplinary areas, such as Professor Quanke SU, Professor Liuqing YANG, Professor Danny TSANG, Professor Wei WANG, Professor Ming LIU, and Senior Engineer Wenbo GAO.

The key laboratory will aim at the international research frontier of ubiquitous IoT, based on the significant strategic needs of national and Guangdong Province ubiquitous IoT, research and develop technologies on integrated communication-sensing-computing ubiquitous IoT. In order to break the boundaries between communication, sensing, and computing design, the Key Laboratory uses the coupling communication-sensing-computing and sensing information to help improve the delay and reliability of wireless communication and the effectiveness of computing, forming theoretical knowledge in applied research. And the Key Laboratory will carry out ubiquitous IOT-applied smart city demonstration, efficient support for human-computer-object interconnection, intelligent body efficient interoperability, enhance the innovation and competitiveness of Guangdong Province and even China in the field of 6G communication-sensing-computing area, and promote the construction of ubiquitous IOT and inclusive intelligence of the society.
