Research Department

The Research Department is committed to providing expertise and delivering effective research administration services, systems, and processes to support faculty and staff in soliciting, securing, and managing research project funding.

Central Research Facilities

The Central Research Facilities provide researchers access to shared advanced research equipment, and highly skilled technical expertise to use these specialized instruments. They are a pillar of the University’s research infrastructure and play a vital and integral role in our multidisciplinary approach. The Central Research Facilities serve as technology platforms supporting our faculty on both campuses, fostering a conducive environment for researchers to collaborate and better position our engagement with academia and industry in the Greater Bay Area and worldwide.

Living Lab Network

University campuses offer a unique setting to explore at scale the complex overlay of technical, social and environmental systems that support life in a city or a country. HKUST(GZ) recognizes this opportunity, taking a systems approach to the design of its infrastructure and support facilities, and making them visible and accessible to the HKUST community. This allows research and learning activities to extend well beyond laboratories and classrooms, transforming the whole campus into a living open experiment.

Further efforts through the “Sustainable Smart Campus as a Living Lab” launched in 2018 at the Clear Water Bay campus and its dedicated University funding have elevated and encouraged many students, faculty, staff, and alumni to join together to turn ideas into action and implement them on our beautiful campus. Ideas and efforts will be expanded to cover both campuses in Clear Water Bay and Guangzhou under the “Unified HKUST, Complementary Campuses” vision.
