The College of Education Sciences in HKUST(GZ) Inaugurated
Recently, the College of Education Sciences (CES) of the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (Guangzhou) was officially established.
College of Education Sciences(CES), under the Vice-President for Teaching and Learning, is the academic unit responsible for first and second-year undergraduate education, offering humanities, social sciences, language, and STEM courses. CES will conduct research in the fields of cognitive sciences and innovative pedagogy. CES also serves as the home unit for UG students before their program major is determined, providing students with academic-related services.
Our daily lives are radically changing as a result of the latest technological, scientific, and industrial revolutions. Knowledge creation, technological advancement, and technology transfer all occur more frequently. The new scientific and technical revolution also coincides with the escalating globalization-related issues.
To capture the opportunities and occupy the pinnacles of the new technological revolution in the new era, while facing challenges and solving complex systemic and comprehensive problems, more adaptable skills with the capacity to meet future challenges are needed. As a result, HKUST(GZ) has developed a unique talent nurturing paradigm that integrates knowledge, ability, and literacy in order to develop "composite innovation and entrepreneurship leading talents" capable of embracing the quickly changing demands of the age of big changes. One of the most significant steps in removing discipline-specific obstacles and integrating disciplines through a variety of organizational innovations in talent cultivation is the formation of the School of Education and Science.
A "2+2" undergraduate talent cultivation method will be used at HKUST(GZ) to undertake undergraduate education in stages. For the first two years, students will not be separated into majors, and the learning content will mostly consist of general education courses and STEM fundamental courses. The College of Educational Sciences has been established by HKUST(GZ) to facilitate the seamless progression of undergraduate education and fully exploit the benefits of the Hub/Thrust Structure. There are five academic departments in the College of Educational Sciences, including:
- Division of General Education (DGE)
- Division of STEM Education (STEM)
- Division of Cognitive Sciences (DCS)
- Division of Language Education (DLE)
- Division of UG Teaching Labs (UGTL)
The establishment of the College of Educational Sciences is of crucial significance for HKUST (GZ) to further improve the academic organizational structure of integrated disciplines, and explore and practice the paradigm of integrated discipline higher education.
