HKUST(GZ) Receives High-Quality Students in the First Year of Undergraduate Enrollment

140 students from the Chinese mainland, Hong Kong, Macau, Taiwan and overseas were admitted into HKUST(GZ). Admission notice will be delivered starting from July 15th.

On July 13th, HKUST(GZ) completed its undergraduate enrollment work in Guangdong Province, which marked the successful conclusion of our university's 2023 undergraduate enrollment work.

This year is the first time for HKUST(GZ) to recruit undergraduates. According to statistics, HKUST(GZ) admitted 125 undergraduates in total from four provinces in the Chinese mainland (Guangdong, Henan, Shandong and Sichuan), all of which were admitted in the early admission phase solely based on the college entrance examination scores; 12 students from Hong Kong, Macao, and Taiwan; three students from overseas. Thanks to students and their parents' trust and support from all walks of life, HKUST(GZ) has achieved remarkable results in the first year of undergraduate enrollment. Especially, the "PhD Integrated Class" has attracted high-scoring students who are interested in dedicating themselves to scientific and technological innovation. The admission scores from the four provinces in mainland China exceeded the special control line (or the first-line) by about 150 points, with the highest score exceeding 164 points.

The first year of undergraduate enrollment had a good start, and the "PhD Integrated Class" attracted high-quality students

Responding to the national demand for compound innovative talents, HKUST(GZ), which positions itself as the "world's first cross-disciplinary university", offered 125 enrollment seats in the early admission in Guangdong, Sichuan, Shandong and Henan for science students (or physics as an elective subject). The number of enrollment seats offered in each province exceeded that of Hong Kong universities and mainland-Hong Kong cooperative universities, providing more talented students with high-quality educational resources.

With the support of an internationally first-class professional faculty, HKUST(GZ) set up three majors in the first year of undergraduate enrollment, including Artificial Intelligence, Data Science and Big Data Technology, and Smart Manufacturing, which were warmly welcomed by students. Among the 55 students admitted in Guangdong, 31 students ranked within the top 1500 in the province, and 13 students ranked within the top 1000.

In the first year of undergraduate enrollment, HKUST(GZ) provided the "PhD Integrated Class," which offers the best educational resources and academic guarantees for excellent students who are interested in engaging in cutting-edge scientific research and technological innovation through the combination of undergraduate, master and PhD programs. High-scoring candidates in the four provinces were admitted in the PhD Integrated Class, with the highest score reaching 678 in Guangdong Province, 681 in Sichuan Province, 680 in Shandong Province, and 678 in Henan Province.

Distinctive international features attracted excellent students all over the world

Connecting the Greater Bay Area to the world is an important mission for HKUST(GZ). In the first year of the university's establishment, the international features of our university gradually emerged and were favored by students from Hong Kong, Macao, Taiwan and overseas.

This year, HKUST(GZ) admitted 12 excellent students from Hong Kong, Macao, and Taiwan through the Joint Entrance Examination to Chinese Universities for Overseas Chinese Students and Students from Hong Kong, Macau and Taiwan (referred to the Joint Entrance Examination hereinafter) and the General Scholastic Ability Test in Taiwan. Among them, the highest-scoring student admitted through the Joint Entrance Examination ranked 82nd. Our university admitted three international students this year.

Hong Kong, Macao, Taiwan, and foreign students who applied to our university recognized the school's location advantages, discipline settings, faculty strength, and training mode. Nansha is located at the geometric center of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area, and it is convenient to travel to Hong Kong and Macao. Under the Unified HKUST-Complementary Campuses umbrella, HKUST(GZ) and HKUST complement each other's discipline settings and provide degree courses with the same quality standards. The research facilities of the two universities are open to each other, and the teachers of the two universities jointly guide students. Students can simultaneously study degree courses offered by both schools and have ample opportunities to go to Hong Kong for exchanges and communication.

As the undergraduate enrollment work of HKUST(GZ) concluded, admission letters will be sent out via EMS starting from July 15th. In the golden autumn season, the first-year undergraduate students all over the world will gather in Nansha, Guangzhou, and start their four-year university life at HKUST(GZ). We are waiting for you, the new owners of No.1 Duxue Road!
