Yantian WANG, from Henan

"Unintentionally Became the First Freshman to Register"

Accompanied by my parents, we traveled by train from Henan to Guangzhou, arriving at HKUST(GZ) for registration around 7 a.m. I found myself unexpectedly becoming the first person to register on-site today, which was a delightful surprise. This being my inaugural visit to the university campus, I am filled with curiosity about everything here; even the flora differs from that of my hometown in Henan. Looking ahead, I aim to swiftly acclimate to my new surroundings, savor Guangdong delicacies, and engage in various student organizations. This marks my first experience of independence away from home at this stage in life, heightening my anticipation for university dormitory life.

"As soon as I arrived on campus, I wasted no time in heading to the swimming pool."

I arrived at HKUST(GZ) yesterday and took a quick tour around the campus. Despite not having my student card yet, I seized the opportunity to swim in the school's pool. The campus is truly beautiful, the teachers are exceptionally welcoming, and everything exudes comfort. I am currently filled with excitement and anticipation for the university life ahead. My goal is to excel in my studies here, immerse myself in a variety of campus activities, and fully enjoy this chapter of my youth.

"I am greatly looking forward to the opportunity to join ACM."

After a 7-hour high-speed train journey from Chengdu, Sichuan, I arrived at HKUST(GZ). My initial impression of the university is its stunning architecture, characterized by a modern corridor design, although I currently find it a bit easy to lose my way. At this moment, I am brimming with anticipation for university life. Most importantly, I aspire to find a group of like-minded individuals here and eagerly await the chance to participate in the ACM International Collegiate Programming Contest.

"HKUST(GZ) is the place I have longed for."

I have eagerly anticipated my arrival at HKUST(GZ) as I had already gathered a plethora of information online beforehand. Knowing it to be an innovative university, it aligns perfectly with the place I have longed for in my heart. On my inaugural visit to HKUST(GZ) today, I have been greeted warmly by many senior students. Looking ahead, I hope to forge new friendships and swiftly immerse myself in this warm and inclusive community.

Kam Seng LAI, from Macao

"I have a fondness for the 8-person apartment dormitory at the university."

I recently took part in the PLACE International Summer Camp organized by HKUST(GZ) and had an incredibly rewarding three weeks there. Among the highlights of my experience was the school dormitory, designed as 8-person apartments. Each resident enjoys the privacy of their own room while sharing a common kitchen—a living arrangement that greatly appeals to me. Today marks my official enrollment at HKUST(GZ). I am filled with excitement, albeit with a hint of uncertainty about the path ahead, yet I am determined to embrace the future with optimism.

06

Yiran DONG, from Shandong

"The first warmth I encountered came from the security guard."

My family of five and I drove all the way from Shandong to HKUST(GZ), combining an educational journey with a family trip. We are all thrilled for me as I embark on this new chapter, turning the once distant dream of HKUST(GZ) into a reality. Upon arrival, the first warmth I encountered was from the security guard. When we parked our car at the campus gate following the navigation, the guard proactively approached us, offering guidance and assistance. Though a minor detail, it reflected the university's welcoming atmosphere. In the upcoming university life, my primary focus will be on academics, while I also aspire to join clubs and societies to enrich my campus experience.

Haaedhik Manojkumar, from India

"I would dub the university library as 'paradise'."

This marks my first visit to HKUST(GZ), and I am deeply astonished by its beauty. The moment I laid eyes on the pictures of the library, I would dub it 'paradise', as I have a great fondness for reading. In the upcoming years, I aspire to make the most of the opportunities for learning that HKUST(GZ) offers me, and I will strive to make friends widely and delve into the beautiful culture here.
