President Lionel M. NI of HKUST(GZ) met with Deputy Head of Mission Geraldine McCafferty and her delegation from the British Embassy Beijing

On August 29th, President Lionel M. NI of Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (Guangzhou) met with the Deputy Head of Mission Geraldine McCafferty and her delegation from the British Embassy Beijing. The two parties engaged in practical discussions on topics such as paradigm shifts in higher education, bidirectional flow of students and academic talents, innovation and entrepreneurship, industry-academia collaboration, climate change, and sustainable development, aiming to deepen mutual cooperation and exchanges for further mutual benefit.

The Consul-General Sarah Mann from the British Consulate-General Guangzhou, HKUST(GZ) Associate Vice-President (Knowledge Transfer) Prof. Hui XIONG, Acting Dean of Society Hub Prof. Ye QI, Acting Executive Dean of the Low Altitude Systems and Economy Research Institute Dr. Jing YANG, and Head of Global Affairs Department Jing FU, respectively, participated in visiting, discussions, and dining events.

President NI warmly welcomed Deputy Head of Mission Geraldine McCafferty and her delegation. He stated that innovation driving internationalization in the fields of education, research, and knowledge transfer is not only a key driver for the rapid development of HKUST(GZ) but also a focal point for further high-quality development. President NI mentioned that the UK is a powerhouse in education and innovation, with its universities and research institutions being natural partners for HKUST(GZ), emphasizing the significant importance of promoting cultural exchanges and cooperation with the UK for the development of the university. He also mentioned that a delegation from HKUST(GZ) will visit the UK in early December.

Deputy Head of Mission Geraldine McCafferty and her delegation visited the Visitor Information Center, the Campus Brain, and the CMA Labs. She remarked that China and the UK share many common interests and have a strong foundation for cooperation, especially in areas like innovation, cultural exchanges, and sustainable development where interactions are frequent. She expressed that she was deeply inspired by her visit and interactions at HKUST(GZ). Deputy Head of Mission Geraldine McCafferty mentioned that the university could play a greater role in promoting bilateral educational technology and cultural exchanges, and she and her team are committed to providing strong support in this regard.

During the discussion, Associate Vice-President (Knowledge Transfer) Prof. Hui XIONG highlighted our university's history, innovative academic framework, educational model, as well as the latest progress in innovation, entrepreneurship, and international cooperation. The Consul-General Sarah Mann, Acting Dean Prof. Ye QI, Acting Executive Dean Dr. Jing YANG spoke on related topics during the exchange session.
