HKUST(GZ), New Uzbekistan University Sign Master's Program Agreement

The New Uzbekistan University and HKUST(GZ) signed a Student Nomination Agreement for the Base of Red Bird MPhil program on January 14 during a delegation visit at HKUST(GZ) campus from the Central Asia-based university.

Dr. Bahodir Ahmedov, Acting First Vice-Rector for Academic Affairs, and Professor Farkhod Eshmatov, Deputy Dean of the School of Engineering from New Uzbekistan University (NUU) received warm welcome from HKUST(GZ) management team. A compact agenda featured discussions and meetings with Professor Lionel M. Ni, the President, Professor Ting Chuen Pong, the Vice-President (Administration & Business) and Professor Xudong Wang, Acting Dean of the College of Future Technology.

This visit followed President Ni’s delegation to Uzbekistan in late September, where framework and student exchange agreements were established between HKUST(GZ) and NUU. The new agreement reaffirmed HKUST(GZ)’s commitment to strengthening collaborations with Central Asia.

Professor Ahmedov shared insights on higher education reforms in Uzbekistan, the innovative infrastructure of NUU, and strategies for effective teaching resource allocation. He expressed hopes that HKUST(GZ) would be NUU’s first strategic partner in China, paving the way for impactful collaborations.

President Ni invited NUU to build an international academic exchange platform with HKUST(GZ) to promote faculty visits and student exchanges, while sharing experiences in interdisciplinary innovation.

Professor Xudong Wang showcased the student-centered interdisciplinary education model of the Red Bird MPhil Program, highlighting the ongoing “RBM International Student Experience Week.” This initiative has welcomed 14 exceptional NUU students to immerse themselves in academic life at HKUST(GZ), blending project-based learning with visits to high-tech enterprises and cultural experiences.

The NUU delegation, together with Professor Xudong Wang and Professor Man Chan, Associate Dean of College of Future Technology, attended a discussion session with the 14 visiting students at the Maker Space.

Professor Eshmatov, impressed by the visiting students’ experience at HKUST(GZ), expressed hopes that they will act as student ambassadors and inspire more students in Uzbekistan to explore the vibrant educational opportunities in the Greater Bay Area.
