HKUST(GZ) secures multiple accolades at 51st International Exhibition of Inventions Geneva
The joint delegation of The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST) and The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (Guangzhou) (HKUST(GZ)) achieved remarkable recognition at the 51st International Exhibition of Inventions Geneva, securing a total of 62 awards. This resounding success underscores the HKUST and HKUST(GZ)'s exceptional capabilities in "AI + X" interdisciplinary innovation and its commitment to translating cutting-edge research into real-world impact.
The innovation cohort comprised 36 teams from HKUST and 26 teams from HKUST(GZ). A total of 62 teams from both campuses secured 62 awards—an outstanding achievement that includes 13 Gold Medals with Congratulations of the Jury, 20 Gold Medals, 21 Silver Medals and 8 Bronze Medals. Achieving a 100 percent success rate, HKUST and HKUST(GZ) both set new institutional records for the total number of awards received.

The HKUST(GZ) delegation was led by Professor Hui XIONG, Associate Vice-President (Knowledge Transfer). HKUST(GZ)'s projects garnered 4 Gold Medals with Congratulations of the Jury and 7 Gold Medals, with one also receiving the Innovation Excellence Award from Umm Al-Qura University in Saudi Arabia. Based on publicly available information, the number of Gold Medals with Congratulations of the Jury received by HKUST(GZ) ranks among the highest for institutions in the Chinese mainland.
The award-winning innovations showcase HKUST(GZ)'s latest advancements in technological innovation and knowledge transfer, spanning cutting-edge fields including healthcare, artificial intelligence, data science, advanced manufacturing, new energy, and the low-altitude economy.

Professor Lionel NI, President of HKUST(GZ), commended the faculty and student teams on their achievements. He said the outstanding results validate the immense potential of the "Unified HKUST, Complementary Campuses" mechanism in integrating research with industry. He also emphasized that HKUST(GZ) will continue joining hands with HKUST to accelerate innovation and drive real-world impact.
Professor Tim CHENG Kwang-Ting, Vice-President for Research and Development at HKUST, said the remarkable results showcase the synergy generated through the "Unified HKUST, Complementary Campuses" strategy and HKUST's commitment to translating research into practical solutions for the benefit of society.
Professor Hui XIONG, Associate Vice-President (Knowledge Transfer) at HKUST(GZ), said that nearly half of the University's participating projects deeply integrate AI technology, leveraging HKUST(GZ)'s unique strengths in interdisciplinary education and project-based learning. He added that HKUST(GZ) and HKUST will continue deepening their collaboration to boost new productive forces of high quality and contribute to sustainable development.
Looking back on the 50th edition of the exhibition last year, all four projects from HKUST(GZ) won awards. This year's expansion to 26 projects reflects HKUST(GZ)'s continuously improving research capabilities and growing international influence under the collaborative innovation mechanism.
