The guests from the two companies are important constructors of the HKUST (GZ) campus. By watching the video which introduces the preparations for the university’s establishment, all attendees recalled the days and nights spent together to build the campus.

Combining guest interviews and on-site interaction, the exchange meeting made in-depth discussion on topics such as campus construction, educational philosophy, innovation highlights, development planning and academic administration systems. As HKUST (GZ) settled in Nansha, Guangzhou, all attendees exchanged visionary ideas on the far-reaching importance of the university-enterprise exploration of compatibility between rules and integrated development to the smooth cooperation and exchanges between Guangdong and Hong Kong and promoting the development of the Greater Bay Area.

Dr. Bin Li extended a warm welcome to the visitors and expressed his sincere gratitude to all the partners who participated in the construction of HKUST (GZ) Phase I. He said that the joint efforts of all sides have been vital to the success of HKUST (GZ) Phase I facing various challenges. He pointed out that,  HKUST (GZ) will boast a better campus and stronger faculty in the future. HKUST and HKUST (GZ) together will constitute “HKUST 2.0”, thereby making unique contributions to the development of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area as an international science and innovation center.

Dr. Li Jin also gave high recognition to the exchange activity. He stressed that Guangzhou Nansha Industrial Construction Management Co., Ltd will continue to forge ahead with enterprise and fortitude, grasp the key points of the Overall Plan of Guangzhou Nansha for Deepening Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Comprehensive Cooperation Facing the World, and facilitate the construction of Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area with practical actions. He also hoped that the university and relevant enterprises will continue to strengthen communication, cultivate more outstanding talents for society, and jointly fight for the bright future of the Greater Bay Area.

According to Dr. Bin Li, HKUST (GZ) will benefit from the endeavor to achieve compatibility between the rules of each region. First of all, HKUST (GZ) is located in the geometric center of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area and neighbors Qingsheng Hub, thus enjoying geographical advantages. In terms of soft measures, there are close exchanges between Guangdong and Hong Kong, especially between HKUST (GZ) and HKUST. For example, both campuses share the same standards for admission, faculty recruitment, and the assessment of administrative staff. As to talent introduction, HKUST (GZ) will attract numerous high-tech international talents to Guangzhou and Nansha, and offer favorable conditions to young entrepreneurs from Hong Kong and Macao.

Speaking of the policy support provided by the state-owned enterprises (SOEs) in Nansha for young people in Hong Kong and Macao, Deng Dazhong said that the Group fulfills its responsibilities as a local SOE in four sectors, namely real estate, urban operation, public utilities and industrial park. In addition, the Group is committed to building a demonstration base called “Chuangxiang Bay”, where young people from Hong Kong, Macao, Taiwan and the rest of the world can engage in wide exchanges and cooperation. The Nansha Talent Apartment, built by the Group, aims to serve young people from Hong Kong and Macao who seek employment and entrepreneurship in Nansha.

What are the advantages of HKUST (GZ) locating its campus in Nansha? How will HKUST (GZ) develop into a “Green Campus” and a “Smart Campus”? How can the university align its academic and administrative standards with those adopted by world-class universities? How can the mature industrial chain of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area be leveraged to accelerate university-enterprise cooperation? All attendees exchanged their inspiring ideas, pushing the meeting to a climax.

With the HKUST (GZ) Phase One comprehensively put into use, the preparations for HKUST (GZ) Phase Two are in full swing. The two companies above will continue to cooperate with the university to complete the construction.
