Undergraduates Access 30+ Top Global Universities: HKUST(GZ) Launches Promotion Series
This September, The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (Guangzhou) inaugurated its Global Learning Promotion Series (2025). Spanning from September 16 to October 17, this initiative invites students to engage with special presentations from representatives of 12 partner institutions, including Oxford University, Stanford University, and the University of Pennsylvania. Notably, nearly 30 exchange programs are currently accepting applications, providing a plethora of opportunities for our students.

The kickoff event of Global Learning Promotion Series (2025) is launched on September 19. Michael Zhang, the Consul General of New Zealand in Guangzhou was invited to deliver a special address. Thematic discussions were led by Nylam Gauthier, Head of Campus France China (Guangzhou), Felix Ye, Senior Market Development Manager of New Zealand Consulate General in Guangzhou, representative from the U.S. Consulate General and Danielle Zhou, Business Development Manager of Australian Consulate General in Guangzhou.
The event was moderated by Professor Shuncheng Lee, Chair of Committee on Student Affairs at HKUST(GZ). Professor Ting Chuen Pong, Vice President (Administration & Business) of HKUST(GZ), delivered a welcome address. Attendees included Professor Danny Tsang, Chair of Committee on Undergraduate Studies; Professor Bin Jiang, Acting Master of Residential College one; Jing Fu, Head of Global Affairs Department; Nan Li, Acting Head of Office of Student Affairs and Li Xin, Deputy Head of Department of Residential College Administration.


Professor Pong extended a warm welcome to the attendees, emphasizing the university’s dedication to expanding students’ international perspectives. He stressed the university’s commitment to offering more global classroom opportunities, enhancing students’ cross-cultural understanding and communication skills, and nurturing them into internationally competent thinkers and doers. Professor Pong urged students to embrace a global outlook while retaining a sense of national pride, acting as ambassadors for China and HKUST(GZ) on the world stage.

In his address, Professor Pong highlighted that since July, the first cohort of undergraduates has embarked on study abroad programs and academic collaborations with universities in the United States, Germany, Italy, Japan, and Singapore. By the end of September, students will have opportunities to study and undertake research internships at over 30 renowned universities and institutions, including The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology, Stanford University, Oxford University, the University of California, Berkeley, RWTH Aachen University, the University of New South Wales, the National University of Singapore, and Osaka University. He reminded students to prioritize their safety and adhere to local laws while studying abroad, assuring them that the university stands as their steadfast support.
Consul General Zhang of New Zealand shared personal anecdotes about his bicultural upbringing in China and New Zealand, highlighting the challenges and rewards of his journey. He emphasized, “Life is a constant journey of self-discovery, growth and change. Studying abroad allows you to interact with diverse cultures, broaden your perspectives, and develop new ways of thinking.” He encouraged students to boldly step into the world and embrace diverse life experiences.

Subsequent presentations included Danielle Zhou from the Australian Consulate General in Guangzhou, who detailed Australia’s national context, educational landscape, and student life.

Nylam Gauthier from the Campus France China (Guangzhou) offered insights into French language and culture, the higher education system, and studying in France.

Meanwhile, a U.S. Consulate representative provided expert advice on applying for student visas, preparing for entry, and navigating student life in America.
Felix Ye from the New Zealand Consulate General in Guangzhou gave a comprehensive overview of New Zealand’s study policies, visa requirements, and lifestyle considerations.

The kickoff event of the Global Learning Promotion Series (2025) concluded with animated discussions, marking a successful beginning to this enriching academic venture.
