Background:
In accordance with the relevant provisions of the University Charter and with the aim of fostering democratic and scientific governance while ensuring efficient and transparent internal management, the sixth Governing Board Meeting of HKUST(Guangzhou) convened on 16 July 2024, reviewed and approved the establishment of the University Executive Committee (UEC).
The UEC serves as a key mechanism for enhancing institutional governance by facilitating the effective coordination of internal resources and relationships, thereby contributing to the University’s overall strategic development.
Terms of Reference:
The responsibilities of the UEC are as follows:
- Assist the President in the execution of duties;
- Propose the University’s development plan;
- Assist the President in examining and coordinating the annual and supplementary budgets for the University’s current and capital expenditures and then submit them to the Finance Committee of the Governing Board;
- Deliberate on all types of fees as authorized by the Governing Board;
- Handle other matters submitted to the UEC by the Governing Board.
Membership Composition:
The UEC shall consist of:
- the President, who shall be the chairperson of this committee;
- the Secretary of the Party Committee;
- the Vice Presidents (if a Vice President has not been appointed, the corresponding Associate Vice President shall assume the responsibilities);
- other personnel designated by the Chair of the UEC.
