Vice-Chairman of the CPPCC National Committee Leung Chun-ying visits HKUST(GZ)
On the morning of October 24, Mr. Leung Chun-ying, vice-chairperson of the National Committee of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC), former chief executive of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR) and consultant of the Consultative Committee on Guangdong-Hong Kong Cooperation in Nanshan, Guangzhou, visited the Phase One of the HKUST(GZ)campus. His tour focused on the teaching, research, administrative and living spaces, including student dormitories, gymnasiums, the High Bay, Maker Space, campus smart brain, and administrative buildings. Mr. Ba Yu, deputy secretary-general of the Guangdong Provincial Committee of the CPPCC and leaders from the Nansha District accompanied the visit.

Prof. Lionel M. Ni, President of HKUST(GZ) introduced the overall construction layout, functions and design concepts of the Phase One campus to Mr. Leung Chun-ying, as well as the location advantages and supportive facilities of Qingsheng hub, Nansha, where the campus sits. Mr.Leung Chun-ying said, he has been closely following the preparation and development of HKUST(GZ) and he was happy to visit the campus in person, witnessing the university transformed from concept to reality. HKUST is a top research and teaching university and its settlement in Nansha can drive the cooperation in scientific research and the transformation of its achievements in Hong Kong, Guangdong and even the whole Greater Bay Area.
Mr. Leung Chun-ying heard the introduction of the pedagogy and talent cultivation model made by Prof. Wu Jingshen, Vice-President of HKUST(GZ) at High Bay and Maker Space. Mr. Leung Chun-ying has placed high expectations on the cross-disciplinary development of HKUST(GZ). He hoped that HKUST(GZ) would nurture more high-end innovative talent with global perspectives and love for homeland China. Prof. Lionel M. Ni, President of HKUST(GZ), Prof. Wu Jingshen, Vice-President of HKUST(GZ), and Dr. Bin Li, Special Assistant to the President of HKUST (GZ) and Director of the President’s Office of HKUST (GZ), received the visit.
